"Viewed from London, the semiology surrounding New York-based vibraphonist Joel Ross' octet, heard on his third Blue Note album (...), tells a social story as much as it does a musical one. The vibraphonist he most resembles is Bobby Hutcherson but Ross is no copycat and has arrived at his own distinctive post-bop style. The standout track is 'Prayer', a slow, pensive ballad whose insistent melody line is hauntingly beautiful"
